About
Wendita
I was born in Beverly Hills, grown in East Los Angeles, and have roots Mexico. I spent most of my childhood summers in Cocula, Jalisco, Mexico, also known as La Cuna del Mariachi or "The Cradle of Mariachi," where I heard local music and was surrounded by Mexican handcrafts and folk art. What I loved doing in Mexico, other than exploring the natural landscapes with my cousins, was listening to my grandmother's stories.
My family is my biggest inspiration. Growing up, my father worked long hours and showed me what a strong work ethic looked like. On his free time he always had music playing for the neighborhood to enjoy or sometimes to endure on long nights. He played everything from disco, to cumbias and music my cousins would enjoy like The Fugees or Tupac. On days he didn't have the speakers on, I'd hear the neighbors play oldies or I'd hear the chickens from their yards. He has always been a supportive father and is still a good DJ at our house parties.
My mother is a seamstress, so although we didn't have much money, we always had creativity. We would draw out designs and she'd make many of my dresses and outfits. She also played music on her small radio and we'd sing and dance to rancheras, salsa, and artists like Selena while she sewed or while we cleaned. Her love has always held my heart together.
I have an older brother who was, and still is, someone who I truly look up to. He's always been tech savvy and had the patience to guide me through a lot of my own enthusiasm for technology. We would break down computers, build some from parts and help fix other people's computers. He and I shared both video games and music as well. He introduced me to some of my favorite rock bands and films. He's a hero to me in many ways and literally saved my life with the Heimlich Maneuver.

I was recognized as gifted in elementary school, was enrolled in a Computer Science Magnet program for both Middle School and High School, where I found a passion for the arts. I went to UC Davis, where I majored in Visual Communication with a minor in Philosophy. I've explored as much of the front and back end of art, but the beauty is that it never stops changing/growing and I can change/grow alongside it.
While at UC Davis, I worked as a Teaching Aid at Sacramento High School, then I got a position at the UC Davis Design Department Laboratory, where I managed all sales and operations. I assisted both students and faculty with photo prints, design software, and design equipment. This led me to become an Teaching Assistant during my last summer there with the course Graphic Design and Computer Technology (Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator).
This was also the place where I met my husband, who inspires most of the romantic poetic words I write and I'm very excited to continue growing older/wiser with him.

After graduating I ended up finding a dream job at the leading Spanish news media company Impremedia. This is the parent company of La Opinión, which is the largest Spanish-language newspaper in the United States and the second-most read newspaper in Los Angeles. I got to explore the ins and outs of the company by holding various positions from video productions, to managing all ads across the US, working directly with clients and vendors.
What I loved about this part of my path was that I got to experience working on many platforms and with many different kinds of businesses. I worked on campaigns and special projects in both levels of Business to Business and Business to Consumer. After almost 7 years working there, I decided it was time to expand once again, but this time with a focus on art, film, and animation.

As I left my downtown job, I ended up taking a detour into sewing with my mother. She experienced a stroke and had difficulties remembering people and using half of her body. I knew I needed to spend time with her and what better way than doing what she knew most and loved. I learned some of what I had seen her do most of my life and thankfully, she made a full recovery. I learned a new skill and now I've been focusing back on some of my artistic passions, leading with music.

The pandemic came at a time when I was focusing on music production. I had always written songs and sang into a recorder ever since I was in elementary. I was in a church choir and then in my middle school choir. I was in the Garfield High School Rock Band and even in the Hip Hop team, but I was always shy to perform. It kept me away, although at home and in my room, it was where I lived. I had a couple of vocal coaches from school programs and they gave me some validation, but I felt I needed more. I wanted to learn more of the production side and building sounds became a rush.
I like telling stories and when you can create and marry both the visuals and sounds it creates an electricity that keeps me going forward. I have a lot to learn, but I have a lot of stories to tell. I know there are also many stories to discover, some that aren't being told and many that I would like to help express.

As I've grown, I've gotten more and more grateful for what my journey has shown me. I am eager to give back to the communities and the people who have helped me on my creative path.
